Making Hanoi a livable city, a modern capital of Vietnam is not only a dream, but also a noble responsibility for each of us. Speaking of a modern capital, there should be a multi-modal transportation system with the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) as the core element of the public transport network. Developing a public transport system is always one of the most effective solutions to solve urban transport challenges such as traffic congestion, accidents, environment pollution, etc. which are common issues in big cities of Vietnam, especially in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Furthermore, public transport system helps to build a modern yet civilized city culture. The establishment of Hanoi Metro One Member Company Limited HMC) under Decision no. 6266/QD-UBND of the Hanoi People’s Committee to operate Hanoi metro rail system and its official operation since June 2015 has resulted from a strategic policy and a highly political determination to create a professional entity that can contribute to making a breakthrough for the capital’s public transport system. Line 2A, Cat Linh – Ha Dong, the first metro line in Hanoi and in Vietnam to be put in official operation, will be “Revolutionizing public transport in the capital“. “A journey of ten thousand miles begins with the first step”. We are proud to support Hanoi’s commuters to make the very first step on a journey of ten thousand miles to develop a Metro network for a civilized, modern capital. To prepare for the handover of the first Hanoi metro line and put it into operation in 2018, the company has focused on completing of the construction and its apparatus, recruiting and training staff, as well as on finalizing institutional organization and developing a Metro rail ticket policy, etc. Especially, we have been focusing more and more on a communication program to ensure that people will support and use this new public transport mode.
